The “Electronics Lab”

The following is a list of electronics equipment for which I have access and may be used during the build:

Diagnostic Equipment

1. Tektronix 7834 Storage Oscilloscope (1972 – 1984)
a. 2 amplifier modules, 1 dual-channel (200 MHz BW), 1 single-channel (250 MHz BW)
b. 2 time base modules, Delaying Timebase (obsoleted 1975), Delayed / Delaying Timebase
2. Leader LDC-823S Digital Counter
3. Triplett Model 630-NA Multimeter (1960s ?)
4. Innova Model 3320 Digital Multimeter

Sourcing Equipment

3. LG Model FG-8002 Function Generator
4. Hewlett Packard DC Powersupply
a. 2 Model 6214A
b. 1 Model 6218A

Receiving Equipment

1. Lionel Type RU Receiver (Electronic Set)

The following is a list of books of which I have and may reference during the build.

Books

“Complete Service Manual for Lionel Trains,” Aurotech, 1978 *1
“The Art of Electronics, 2nd Edition,” Horowitz & Hill, 1989
“Introductory Electronics for Scientists and Engineers, 2nd Edition,” Simpson, 1987
“Fundamentals of Physics, Extended, 3rd Edition,” Halliday & Resnick, 1988
“Physics for Students of Science and Engineering,” Stanford & Tanner, 1985
“1954 RCA Reference Book,” RCA, 1954 (added for the ECU-1 on November 8, 2017)

I am a member of Dallas Makerspace.  The makerspace has an electronics lab with a variety of equipment for testing, debug, diagnostic, creation, and assembly of electronic related makery.  Looking ahead at this project, there are a few tools for which I most likely will use during this build.

Dallas Makerspace Equipment (diagnostic)

1. Signstek LCR Meter
2. Signstek ESR Meter
3. Rigol Digital Oscilloscope

*1. My service manual does not contain the service information for the 282 / 282R Portal Gantry Crane.  An excellent on-line resource is Olsen’s Toy Train Parts Library.  (added November 8, 2017)
